    Overview

    What's covered

Fire safety in a care facility is fundamentally different from fire safety in an office: residents may have limited mobility, cognitive impairment, sensory loss, or oxygen on hand. This PD covers fire safety, warden duties and emergency evacuation procedures tailored to residential aged care, group homes, day services and clinics.

Content is aligned to AS 3745 Planning for Emergencies in Facilities and the maintenance principles in AS 1851. Hands-on practice includes extinguisher use, evacuation chair operation and slide-sheet evacuation of mobility-impaired residents.

The comprehensive format adds chief-warden tabletop scenarios, a service-specific evacuation plan review and a workplace project — a staged-evacuation drill plan for your service.

    You will be able to

    • Identify fire triangle elements and classes of fire (A, B, C, D, E, F)
    • Demonstrate use of fire extinguishers (PASS), fire blankets and hose reels — when and when not to use
    • Apply RACE and PASS in a care facility setting
    • Carry out warden duties under AS 3745, including communication and roll-call
    • Conduct staged evacuation of mobility-impaired residents using slide sheets and evacuation chairs
    Two formats
