    Overview

    What's covered

Behaviours of concern — verbal aggression, physical aggression, self-injury, withdrawal — are most often communication, not defiance. This PD equips disability and aged care teams to read the behaviour, regulate the environment, and respond in a way that is safe for the person, the staff and other residents/participants.

The program is built on Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and trauma-informed care, and it walks staff through the legal and reporting framework around restrictive practices regulated by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission.

The comprehensive format adds Behaviour Support Plan (BSP) contribution drills, role-play of de-escalation scripts, and a workplace project — one resident/participant's behaviour pattern, mapped using the ABC model and a proposed environmental adjustment.

    You will be able to

    • Understand behaviour as communication and apply the ABC (Antecedent–Behaviour–Consequence) model
    • Use trauma-informed and person-centred de-escalation techniques
    • Identify the five regulated restrictive practices under the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission
    • Recognise the legal and reporting obligations for unauthorised restrictive practices
    • Document behaviour incidents and contribute to Behaviour Support Plans
